It is crucial to ensure you are applying enough Activator to your nail, make sure to dunk the brush back into the bottle before moving on to the next nail.
After the second coat of activator is applied, let it dry for 1-2 minutes before you apply the first coat of finish gel. The first layer of Finish Gel needs to be applied quickly, in 2-3 quick strokes. The second coat of Finish Gel can be applied more slowly and carefully; be sure to cap the front edge of the nails.
Your Finish Gel is causing your nail to look dull or matte because either the Activator was not fully dry before you applied the Finish Gel, or you did not use enough Activator on the nail initially. If you are experiencing this issue, you can buff down the nail and reapply Activator (making sure to dip the brush back in the bottle for each individual nail) and letting it dry for a 15 seconds if you are using the Professional liquids or letting the Activator dry for 1-2 minutes if you are using the EZ Care liquids. Next, dry each nail with a paper towel, and reapply your Finish Gel.
If you are sure your Activator is completely dry, you may have gotten Activator in your Finish Gel which could be preventing it from curing properly. If this is the case, contact us.
Not enough Activator or improper prep. Activator is what cures the powder and makes it adhere to the nail. You might need to use more of the #3 Activator, making sure you apply to the front edge of the nail (capping the front edges). If the front edges are not capped, lifting can occur. Be sure to apply the Activator on all edges. Getting Activator on the skin will not damage the skin. To learn how to properly prep the nail, click here: https://youtu.be/-V2I3BDQJR8
Pro Base and Finish Gel are strong adhesives. You need to be careful to not get it on the neck of the bottle or it will glue the cap shut. If this happens, you can wrap a non-slip jar opener around the lid or put a rubber band around the lid to get a better grip and open the bottle. We then suggest you apply the brush softener to clean the threading, ensuring the brush softener does not get in the liquids as it will contaminate them, then wipe off. To prevent this from happening in the future, be sure to watch our Liquids 101 video here: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CByiMqDplJG/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
Please also note that Gel Thinner is a thinner version of these liquids and is still composed of a strong adhesive that will cause the lid to seal shut if left on the threading of the bottle or lid.
If you do happen to get Finish Gel or Pro Base on the outside threading of your bottle, you can apply Brush Softener or Acetone to the area (making sure not to get any Brush Softener or Acetone inside the bottle), wait 3 minutes, then wipe the threading with a paper towel before closing the bottle.
If you are having trouble with the ProBase or Finish Gel brush hardening, there are two possible causes:
- If Pro Base comes in contact with excess powder it can cause the brush to harden, this is why it is crucial to wipe off the excess powder in between layers of ProBase and dipping the nail. If you use a Prep or even wipe your nails with alcohol prior to applying your first layer of Pro Base it can cause hardening if the step is not entirely dry.
- The Activator may not be completely dry when you move on to the Finish Gel. You need to wait longer (1-2 minutes) after the second application of the Activator to apply the Finish Gel. Activator and Finish Gel react with each other to give you the hard finish on your nails, and the same thing can happen in your bottle. If the Activator on your nails is not completely dry, you will have a hardened Finish Gel brush.
To fix a hard brush: Take out the brush in the brush softener bottle and use a paper towel to dry off the liquids on the brush. The liquid is colored so that you have a visual appearance on how clean the brush is, dry it until the brush is colorless. Use the clean, dry brush in the liquid with the hard brush. Then take the hard brush, clean it with a paper towel, and let it sit in the brush softener bottle for at least one hour. After one hour, take the brush out and clean it to remove glue residue from the bottle. Leave that brush in the brush softener for next time you have a damaged brush.
If you haven’t watched already, be sure to watch our Liquids 101 video which is full of tips to prevent contamination https://www.instagram.com/tv/CByiMqDplJG/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
Remove the damaged brush from your bottle of Pro Base or Finish Gel. Carefully wipe on a paper towel. Remove the brush from the Brush Softener. Carefully wipe the liquid off of the wand and bristles of the Brush Softener brush on a paper towel. Let the brush from the Brush Softener bottle dry completely - it should not be blue anymore. Once dry, you can use the brush from the Brush Softener in the Pro Base or Finish Gel. Put the damaged brush into the Brush Softener and leave it in the bottle until another brush is damaged and follow the same steps. See this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dRTbQCURxM&t=2s
Please note the Brush Softener is meant to help with minor brush stiffness. If your Pro Base or Finish Gel are beginning to thicken, the Gel Thinner may help. If they are very thick, you can contact us and get a replacement if the liquids were purchased within the past year.
